Officials of the Gujarat anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Tuesday said that the former MD of the Gujarat Land Development Corporation (GLDC), K S Detroja, had bought more than 70 hectares of land, worth about Rs 2.5 crore, in six districts of state.
During their six-month investigation, ACB officials found that Detroja had bought the land in a period of two years, when he was MD of GLDC. ACB officials also informed income tax officials, to initiate proceedings against Detroja for his unaccounted income. Officials say Detroja had amassed properties worth more than Rs 100 crore.
The GLDC scam came to light after it emerged that false bills worth hundreds of crores were generated and the money was siphoned off during the state government’s campaign to deepen ponds and lakes ahead of the monsoon last year.
The government in November 2018 decided to close down the public sector unit after failing to control the rampant corruption in it. The comptroller and auditor general of India (CAG) also reported massive irregularities in GLDC.
