Four persons of a family had a narrow escape as a slab of a dilapidated building they were living in near Kothi crossroads collapsed on Sunday afternoon.
The three-storey house located in a narrow lane opposite government press was occupied by Mali family when a slab of the second floor of the building fell on the first floor. While three persons of the family came out with minor injuries, a 50-year-old man identified as Tushar Mali, who was in the bathroom, was stuck as the debris covered the bathroom’s door.
Fire officials said that the wooden beams of the 80-year-old building had completely rotten due to which the structure was not able to bear the load. There was a kitchen on the second floor and the owners had over the years fixed ceramic tiles which had added to the load. “As the building had not been maintained in recent years the slab came crashing down. Fortunately it was not a major mishap,” said a fire official.
