Senior Congress leader and spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi has become the first person from his party to slam the All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s proposal to have Sharia courts in every district. Singhvi called the move a hare-brained Scheme, which has no place in India’s constitution.
Singhvi in fact suggested a BJP hand in propping up the issue with eyes on the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “I would not be surprised if this claptrap regrading Sharia courts is a new divisive and apprehension creating ambience unleashed by BJP and their proxies before 2019. Deserves to be condemned unequivocally and has no place in a constitutional democracy with a unified judicial system,” said Singhvi, a top lawyer.
