(UNI) Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina on Wednesday slammed the Congress government in Punjab for not implementing the Centre's Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Yojana, which aims to provide a health coverage of Rs five lakh per family. He said many vulnerable families eligible for the benefits could have avail the benefits but for the indifferent attitude of the state government they have been devoid of the scheme.
Mr Chhina, who undertook a tour to various villages in Ajnala, said while addressing the poor section of the societies that the scheme is the world's largest fully government-funded health insurance programme, which will set an example for countries across the world, but the Capt Singh-led state government in Punjab has not availed the scheme fully. He said a number of states in the country have made the optimum use of the scheme, but Punjab was not able to use the same.
While addressing a public meeting at Ajnala, he expressed anguish at the crippled health sector in the state and continued major healthcare crisis with many ills plaguing government-run hospitals. Chhina emphasized on the dire need of implementing Centre's PMJAY, which has proved to be a game-changer initiative to serve the poor in other states. "While Punjab government's Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojna provides a cover of only Rs 50,000, Ayushman Bharat provides a cover of 10 times", informed Chhina.
