The police decided to strengthen the “second line of defence” after the BSF at the Indo-Pak border. DGP Dinkar Gupta has deputed police personnel to identify proclaimed offenders in drug trafficking cases belonging to the border belt.
He chaired a meeting, which was attended by ADGP and STF (anti-drug) chief Gurpreet Kaur Deo, ADGP (law and order) Ishwar Singh, IG, STF RK Jaiswal, IG (border range, Amritsar) SPS Parmar, Police Commissioner (Amritsar) SS Srivastava, SSP (rural) Vikram Jit Duggal, SSP (Gurdaspur) Swarandeep Singh and SSP (Tarn Taran) Kuldeep Singh Chahal.
After the meeting, Deo said the focus of the meeting was to discuss the strategy being adopted by the peddlers to sneak in drugs from across the border and the action plan to counter it.
She said that the seizure had brought to fore the fact that drug peddlers in Pakistan were desperately trying to push heroin into India. She said investigations were on to break the international drug nexus.
