To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the Northern Railways has decided to build a magnificent façade of Sultanpur Lodhi railway station on the theme inspired by the teachings of the Guru.

While unveiling the design of the new elevation, Rajesh Aggarwal, DRM, Ferozepur Division, said the front elevation design of the station would contain 13 arches. “The proposed structure will be a marvellous piece of modern Sikh style architecture. The concept is based on Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings, ‘Awwal allah noor upaya kudrat ke sab bande’, which means equality for all,” he said.

“The thirteen arches on each side of the station slowly rising towards the centre will depict surrender to the Almighty, which will be further manifested by the humbleness and openness in overall form of the building,” said the DRM.

“The existing facilities will be beautifully integrated with the proposed amenities” he added. Over 30 lakh pilgrims are expected from all over the world to visit this holy city to participate in the historic event and for most of them, Sultanpur Lodhi will be the first halt. “We are gearing up to cater to the needs of lakhs of pilgrims as the Railways will be playing a major role in their transportation,” said the DRM.
